Thanks to all for a great Christmas!

Well, Christmas 2006 has now passed us right on by. It was a great time for me and my family. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who made it such a great family gathering. The food was great, the fellowship was bliss and memories are worth more than words can express. It was worth it just to be present when Jeremy was crowned the Gingerbread Engineer of the Year! Good job Jeremy! I really appreciated everyone, that was able to, participating in the gingerbread house building. My family really enjoyed do it, I hope that all of you did too. I thought maybe we might discuss some guidelines for next year if everyone is on board with doing it again. Please, we are not trying to run the whole thing, we want everyone to give there thoughts or if you don't want any rules then please feel free to say so. Here are some things we thought about.

1. The day after Thanksgiving is the first day in which you can began the actual construction of your gingerbread house.
2. You are allowed one non-edible item for structure support and three additional non-edible items. You can use two or three non-edible items for structure but if you do then you loose an item that can be use for decoration. If you don't use any structure items you still can only use three decorative items. I think for those who are traveling structure support is going to be an important issue. This does not include your platform or whatever you use to cover your platform.
3. The platform size we thought we would increase to 20" x 20" this year and set a maximum height of 24" as well.
4. If you use a kit, you can not spend more than $20 on the kit, but you can add as many add-ons as you would like.
5. Edible add-ons are limited to three mass-produced items. Basic cookies and candies are unlimited, of course. What I mean is, if you buy your snowmen, like we did, instead of making them, like Jeremy did, then that would count as one of your items. You will also loose points for using them. That is why the Jeremys beat us! Ha!!

If you have any other suggestions, please speak up and let us know, or if you don't like any of these ideas let us know as well. Thanks again for the great day yesterday! Love you all!

I had a great day yesterday also. We are all truly blessed to have such a family as we do to gather together.
We may run out of Kansas Eyeballs but we will never run out of family!!!!
Jeff, will peppers be legal on a gingerbread house next year? And what about tags and taxes? And insurance? And titles. And a prize for the best one? Like a Hummer?

I think we need to install cameras in everyone's kitchen, front-room, and bath-rooms, and garages, just to make sure that no one breaks the rules.....hehehehehehehehe;-0

John said you must be board making up rules for gingerbread houses???

Actually I am kind of at a place where I mostly enjoy someone else taking the lead, at least if their competent, and I think you probably are so the rules are fine with me and my house....that is if no one else in my house post here and raises objections then they are not OK with me???

I too had a great day and enjoyed the fellowship and food.

Sorry, I have not been able to get to a computer until now. Well, I am glad to hear you guys had a good time. I guess you all are okay with the GUIDLINES not rules. Ha! Tell John that I may be bored but he isn't even thinking of "rules." So I guess I have a little more to do than he does. And as far as the cameras go........well, we thought about that but it seems like that might be going to far, but we could reconsider if you all think it best. Ahhhhh now for the Hummer idea. That was supposed to be the great surprise, but I guess now you have spoiled it! Some people have a lot of nerve. Oh well glad to know that the James McEntire family is okay with it. Still have not heard from anyone else on the GB Rule Book. Hope you all have a good New Year. Love you all.

As far as The Jeremys go, we are ok with any guidelines / rules for the GB houses.

And as for the cameras, I, myself, personally would be to afraid to look at the film of family in their every day, might end up seeing an argument. Or people before their morning coffee. Toooo spooky for me.

Oooooo, I didn't think about that. Cameras are absolutely out!!! Thanks for the good plug.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, sorry about letting the Hummer out of the bag. You guys have NO idea how many secrets I haven't told.

Could the G.Bread houses be judged just like dogs at a show? Each judge gives them the points they think they deserve, then they are added up. The one with the most points wins.......just like Scrabble!!!!

Or we could drag somebody in off of the street that isn't biased and they could judge.

I for one know I don't want to be the judge because I would make everyone win. I am all for winners!!! mom

We can just pull a homeless person of the street to be the judge!? LOL, just kidding. We'll have to feed him :-)

Michele,

Yes, I think that is a good idea on the judging. What about every family who has a house entered, having one person represent them in the judging. Then the judges score everyone on whatever catagories we designate with a 1 - 10 scale. Each judge scores each house except their own. Points added and Jeremy wins again! Well, what-about-that. As far as the hummer, I forgive you, but thanks to you the prize has now changed to something entirely different. Love ya!

Mom,

My first choice was to have you do all of the judging because I knew we would all win. After all isn't that the politially correct thing to do, everybody wins there are no loosers so no one has to try any harder next time. Ha

They could eat gingerbread houses. Ummmmmm!!!!

one quick thought...

It seems like if you use a kit you should start with a negative score. For someone who used a kit and someone who made the gingerbread to start out on an even plain doesn't seem equitable, because the kit one will look automatically more uniform, better shaped, etc. Plus, a kit is a very mass-produced item. :) ???

I'll probably think of other things...

LoneStarBlogger said...

Olivia,

I think that is a fair approach. How about a negative 5 points for the kit and a negative 3 for any other mass produced items? I look forward to hearing your ideas. Thanks for the input.

So what we're saying here is the MORE natural and home-made things the better.

That seems to be an accurate summation.
